Summer- The 3 C's

Evelyn: There are three things a lady must have; confidence, class.. and a corset (just kidding, alliteration is fun). Confidence is a key to success, class is synonymous to a diamond (that should be plural- you shouldn't have just one ;) ), and the corset can be replaced with (or worn underneath) a little black dress. This is a classic- every girl should have at least one; as I've said before, summer is all about simplicity and you can never go wrong with a little black dress. What I love is that there are literally millions of different styles, cuts, and materials used all around the world, making this look stay trendy and unique with each dress. Because I have quite a few little black dresses myself, keep an eye out for a post here and there as I will definitely be sharing my favourites with you! Let's begin with one of the newest to my little black dress collection..

After trying it on, I could not walk away from this dress- made of 66% viscose, 28% nylon, and 6% spandex, not only is it super comfortable and fit to wear, it's also the perfect length and has just the right touch of metallic embellishment in the shoulder area. It's simple, classy, and still has a sexy edge to it. (I've been seeing metallic's from embellishments to accessories coming in with the gold and silver accents as rose gold fades out with summer.. I can not wait to see what's in stores this fall!)

I found a light pair of rusty-bronze leaf earrings that compliment the embellishment on the shoulder area, and an angle-cut, textured, silver-metallic bangle (I am very picky with bigger bangles, and the detailed texture on this one definitely sold me). Unfortunately we didn't have much time to shop for a clutch I would prefer best with this dress, but with simplicity you have flexibility, so we went with a classic black satin clutch (the crystal-embedded clip was a little shinier than I liked with the outfit so I didn't completely show it).

To again compliment the embellishment on the shoulders of the dress, I wore a pair of black patent heels that had a combination of smooth and textured straps, and that tied the look together with a strap that goes up the foot and around the ankle.x

Elaine: Alright, so let's get started on with the make-up! For this "Little Black Dress" look, I decided to make it more dramatic but giving Evelyn a rustic smokey eye to match the embellishments on her dress. Instead of using the traditional gray's and such, I opted for a metallic bronze and brown eyeshadow for the smoke. You want to start off with an iridescent pearly eyeshadow to highlight your entire eyelid and brow bone. Then move on to the outer colour before starting to smoke the eye. The point of doing this is so that (as seen in the pictures below) instead of just seeing the smoke alone, there will be a surrounding colour giving it a more dynamic look. Also, the complimenting colour is essentially a rustic bronze/brown hence, the outer smoke colour. I then went ahead and smudged some matte brown eyeshadow onto Evelyn's lower lash line. I only went about halfway and finished the other half with a matte white eyeshadow to highlight the inner corner of her eyes. To finish off the look, don't forget to touch up on the highlights (inner corners, centre eyelid, & brow bone). Furthermore, if you are like the majority of us and do happen to look like the living dead without some colour on your face, don't forget to contour with some matte bronzer and give your face a subtle flush with an earthy blush (not shown in pictures). The lipstick that Evelyn wore for this look was a nude-pink (Viva Glam V), her lips are already pretty pigmented but you can definitely tell a difference from before and after. The most important part about eye make-up is definitely the eyebrows. They frame your face and essentially tie the look together. Today, for the smokey eye look, I gave Evelyn a sharper arch but with a light brown powder to soften it up from the eyes. I chose to give her a higher arch because this look is already dramatic as it is…so, why not add some feistiness into it by making it a meaner, yet sexy look.

Next, the hair was a tough one. Evelyn had already previously straightened her hair so it wouldn't hold curls very well. But don't let that stop you! Improvise! Instead of putting her hair into an up-do, like I had originally planned, I ended up using her hot rollers and left them in for a good half hour before taking them out- which gave us an effortlessly sexy look. (In the meantime, we had some supper and watched some Morning Glory featuring Rachel McAdams...love her! Which goes to show that you can definitely do other things when waiting for your hair to set!) Anyway, moving on...I took out the hot rollers and they left a nice loose wave on her hair. As opposed to creating a beach wave (curling in opposite directions), I rolled all of the rollers in the same direction to keep the look more classy since we are pairing it with a little black dress! Keep in mind that if you want to keep your waves looking wavy throughout the day, try putting on some mousse before rolling them or finish off with a strong hold hairspray (but don't make them look crispy)!
TIP #1: To help your eyeshadow show up more and/or stay longer, try putting on some concealer as a base (or a primer if you have one) and set it with some powder before doing your eye make-up. That way, if you have oily lids like Evelyn does, it will help prevent the eyeshadow from creasing throughout the day. && Don't forget to condition your lips before putting on that lipstick! You don't want them to look flaky when you're sipping on that cocktail...or shooting some whiskey!

TIP #2: If Plan A doesn't work out for you, opt for Plan B, C or even D! Always have a backup plan because you never know what will end up happening! Like today, Evelyn's hair wouldn't hold a curl because she had previously straightened it so we opted for waves with hot rollers instead. Like I said, improvise! And if you need some inspiration, don't be afraid to check out some awesome tutorials on youtube!

Oh! One last thing before I end my little blurb! Don't be afraid to mix and match your looks! Our look book is purely to inspire you and show you what we've come up with. Don't feel obligated to strictly follow which make-up look goes with which outfit! Be yourself! :)

-Cheers from Elaine! <3
